The dust has settled and Judith Heft & Associates is open for business at our new location. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if I would make it; I found the new office in June and had originally intended to move in by July 1, which came and went. So did August 1. Finally on August 31, we moved into our new digs.

I kept at it in part because our new address is 1111 Summer Street — 1111 is viewed by many as a lucky or “angel” number. Moreover, our offices are on the sixth floor, and my birthday is June 6. Obviously the universe wanted me to move there!

If you want your move to be a bit more seamless than mine, here are some of the things I learned the hard way:

  • Negotiating a commercial lease has literally become my least favorite thing in the world. As a subletter, I was used to one-page leases that even I could understand, but this lease was 35 pages. Luckily I had the help of an excellent attorney!
  • If you’re moving out of a large office building, be sure to check with management to see if your movers need any special permissions, or can only come on certain times and days. My movers encountered huge obstacles from my old landlord, who wasn’t satisfied with their Certificate of Insurance for some reason.

And here’s a little style advice: Adding  a red wall to any space makes it infinitely more fabulous.

Join me next week when I get back into the swing of blogging. There’s so much to talk about, what’s on your mind?
